Media Fraternity, Politicians Mourn Death of BBS Journalist Sseruwooza
Tributes have continued to pour in from journalists, politicians and public figures following the sudden death of BBS Terefayina journalist Joseph Sseruwooza, remembered for his disciplined reporting, calm demeanour and commitment to public-interest journalism.

The media fraternity and political leaders across Uganda are mourning the death of BBS Terefayina journalist and political talk show host Joseph Sseruwooza, who passed away at Mulago National Referral Hospital in the early hours of Friday.

Sseruwooza reportedly died from Mulago Heart Institute on Friday morning after developing complications following surgery for an ulcer-related condition.

BBS Terefayina confirmed his death in a statement, saying he had been a key member of the newsroom, mainly covering Parliament and hosting the “Zuukuka n’Ensonga” programme.

“It is with sadness that we announce the death of our colleague, Joseph Sseruwooza,” the station said. “He was a journalist who mainly covered Parliament and also hosted the Zuukuka N’Ensonga programme. More details will follow.”

His death has shocked colleagues and public figures, with many describing him as a journalist who dedicated his career to amplifying citizens’ voices and scrutinising national issues.

NBS Television journalist Hakim Wampamba said Sseruwooza used his career to serve the public interest, noting that his work brought parliamentary proceedings closer to ordinary citizens.

He added: “You spent your life chasing stories, asking difficult questions, and giving a voice to those who had none… Sleep peacefully, Joseph Sseruwooza. You have filed your final report.”

Next Media political talk show host Adam Kungu described him as calm, humble and disciplined, saying he positively impacted many people through his journalism.

Former Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said he had been interviewed by Sseruwooza on several occasions, including earlier in the week.

“Condolences to his family, BBS and the media fraternity,” he said.

National Unity Platform Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya also expressed sorrow, describing the news as deeply painful.

Kira Municipality MP George Musisi said he was heartbroken, noting that he had appeared on Sseruwooza’s programme just days before his passing.

Sseruwooza built a reputation as a diligent parliamentary reporter and political talk show host whose work consistently focused on public accountability and governance issues.

His sudden death has left a gap within Uganda’s journalism fraternity, where he was widely respected for professionalism, consistency and dedication to public-interest reporting.
